I recently received an order for this particular soap, and let me tell you, the smell alone brings me a lot of nostalgia! The ingredients list the active ingredient as “cresylic acid.” Still, it has to be a mix of the majority “carbolic acid” with some of the 3 cresols mixed in because the aromatic profile smells “carbolic acid” with some underpinning of creosote because of the “cresylic acid”.
The soap feels rather luxurious once lathering begins, which it does nicely. The aromatic profile is amplified once lathering begins and the distinct smell of cleanliness because of the active Ingredients. It reminds me of schools in the ‘90s, when, for instance, you went to the restroom and saw a janitor leave after cleaning. You’d encounter this particular smell, and the restroom would appear markedly clean and sanitary.
The soap’s visual appearance has that yesteryear essence. TThe iconic red color of the bar of soap, combined with the smell, tells me that if I use that soap, it guarantees me a level of cleanness that one might feel occasionally but might have the chance to feel more consistently.
Overall, this soap imbues the person using it with a perception of total cleanliness and knowledge that one might get every once in a while. Still, this particular carbolic soap allows that feeling to occur more often. All in all, this soap is a working man’s soap and its utility goes beyond hygiene alone and can be used for everyday cleaning
